Hello everyone, my name’s Dan. I’ve successfully tricked Ethan into thinking that I know something about beer, and so he offered me a spot writing for BOV. He’s confused enthusiasm for knowledge, you see, and so while I’m about as excited about beer and brewing as is physically possible, I don’t particularly know what I’m talking about.
For example: I tried my first Baltic Porter two days ago. I finally put the growler I got at AWOG to use, but I neglected to make a note of who brewed it. I was able to use buzzwords like ‘hot alcohol,’ ’spiciness and raisin flavor’ and ‘dark chocolate finish’ to sound important around my family — all of whom took a sip and made a face before handing the glass back to me — but that doesn’t mean I can detect diacetyl in under ‘I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter addition in secondary’ levels.
Still, what I lack in experience I make up for in love of my own voice, so hopefully I’ll gradually become more useful. I’d like to thank Ethan for giving me the chance to write for him; in addition to being a great experience, it will hopefully prod me into learning more about beer and brewing, especially as it relates to our area.
Cheers!
